NEWS UPDATE!After a successful year of being in steam, after being out of steam for the previous 8, we are now hard at work repairing faults and carrying out routine maintenance.
Unfortunately there are some problems that cannot be fixed by effort alone and require money to get the job done. We have sadly found one of these problems.
A couple of weeks ago we discovered that a hole had appeared in the bottom of the condenser and that seawater was dripping out of it. For those who don't know much about steam engines, there should not be seawater anywhere in a condenser except for the tubes. So for this hole to have been created, seawater must be leaking out of a number of tubes. We are currently working on patching the hole and locating the leaks but if the tubes are damaged we are looking at a substantial cost for replacing them.
We are also continuing with the work on the main engine, replacing the worn pistons and bearings. Working on repairing the aft peak tank hatch and getting the steering engine chains replaced. We are also going to be coating the inside of the boiler in a special paint to help protect and prolong it's lifespan.
